I have just finished school at FIDM in Los Angeles, CA with a degree in Visual Communications. Since living in Southern California my entire life, I decided now was the time to embark on a new journey while giving myself a drastic change of scenery. In hopes of following my dream of becoming a set designer for runway shows, the only place I could think to go was New York City. Once I decided this, I told myself that I would do whatever it takes to get myself there without looking back. I made quick decisions - sold my car, got rid of half of my belongings, booked a plane ticket, and three weeks later here I am. It really goes to show that you can do anything you put your mind to. Knowing that, I have the upmost faith in myself to make it in this crazy town.
Speaking of crazy town, I don't actually live in the city (aka manhatten). I live in Brooklyn. I have two roomates, Jess and Asher, who are both awesome. Oh, and we have a black cat named Oliver. He's one of those cats that acts like a dog, you know. Anyway, the four of us will only be living together for the month of January. I thought it would be the best way to move out here, living in a sublet for a month while I find a permanent place to live in February. I am really happy I went with that too because although my apartment rocks, I pretty much live in the ghetto. Also, I am currently unemployed. Monday will be my first solid attempt at looking for a job in the city so wish me luck!
All of my friends and family have been so supportive of my move out here so I thought it would be fun to blog my experience. I invite you to follow me in my adventures as I adjust to the (freezing) cold weather, find an ideal living situation, get a job, and begin my life as a New Yorker.
Until we meet again,
Meg
